The Iraqi National Team Jersey 2021–2022 is a conceptual kit design for Iraq’s national football team. The project explores how visual elements from Mesopotamian and Islamic heritage can be translated into a contemporary, performance‑driven sports jersey.
PROBLEM
Although Iraq has one of the richest cultural and historical legacies in the world, this depth is often not reflected in the visual identity of its football kits. The challenge was to avoid generic motifs and instead build a clear, modern jersey concept that respectfully integrates Babylonian, Assyrian, and Islamic influences without feeling crowded or nostalgic.
SOLUTION
I built a design concept rooted in key symbols of Iraqi history and heritage. The jersey incorporates inspiration from the Ishtar Gate and the walls of Babylon—once among the wonders of the world—along with Assyrian forms and the evolving patterns of Islamic architecture and Kufi script. These references appear as unified graphic elements and textures that wrap the kit, suggesting blessing, fertile land, and palm farms while keeping the overall look minimal and athletic.
